Eugénie Archipelago

The Eugénie Archipelago (Russian: ''Архипелаг императрицы Евгении'') is a chain of islands, islets and kekurs in the Peter the Great Gulf of the Sea of Japan, part of Primorsky Krai, Russia. The archipelago is located to the south of Vladivostok and north-east of the Rimsky-Korsakov Archipelago.
The islands were named after Eugénie de Montijo, the wife of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French by a French sailor in the 1850s. The name was not used in the Soviet period, but began to be used again after 1994.〔(Geonames Gazetteer )〕
The archipelago consists of five large islands (Russky, Popov, Rikord, Reyneke and Shkot), and a large number of small islands (including Yelena and Ushi), islets, and rocks. The highest point is Russkikh Mount (291 m) on Russky Island.
The population of the archipelago is 6,810 (2005).〔(Сборник «Муниципальные образования Приморского края» )〕 Three of the four inhabited islands of Primorsky Krai are in this archipelago.
